CANCER SUCKS! Fight for a cure!
You know it does. Everyone I know has been touched by it in one way or another.
As most of you know, my dad is currently fighting cancer. A very brief recap: He had his bladder & prostate removed in June, the found cancer in 10 of 21 lymph nodes so he is now going on to his second round of chemo.
I have had friends with cancer, acquaintances with cancer, co-workers with cancer, young students with cancer…the list goes on.
We all feel kind of helpless in these situations, I think. I’m the kind of person who can’t just sit back & watch. I have to do something.
I want the boy to grow up into a world without cancer.
So, I decided to do something to help.
This is what you all came back for!
I have created a line of merchandise and built an online store to raise money for cancer.
Here’s where I need your help.
1. Please please buy something! Every single penny of profit is donated to cancer research and patient care.
2. If you blog or have a website of any kind, please link to this post/this store on your site and encourage your readers to both purchase and link as well.
3. Email the link to all of your friends, family, neighbours and co-workers and encourage them to support us.
This is the link: http://www.cafepress.com/raisemoney
If you don’t know how to link, email me or comment and I’ll be glad to help.
The BG and I will match, dollar for dollar, every donation up to $200 (because, you know, I’m not working). Though the store is permanent and proceeds will always be donated, my immediate goal is to sell 100 items before Christmas. Each item is marked up by between approximately $0.50 and $5.00. We could have done a lower markup, but what’s an extra $2 for cancer, right? And you get some cool stuff while you’re at it! So, if you all buy enough to make a $200 donation, we would then match it to make a $400 donation for Christmas. Does that make sense? You buy more, we give more!
Oh, and shipping is free until September 5, 2006 with a $50 purchase! Just use the code BTS2006 when you check out.
Don’t worry if you miss it - shipping is only about $5 in the US and $6 in Canada for the first item.
Additional bonus: No sales tax unless you live in CA or KY.
Or, if you want to forego the merchandise and just donate, email me for my address and you are welcome to send a cheque.
Or donate via PayPal to muchmorethanamom [at] gmail [dot] com.
So? Off you go. Let’s go shopping and fight for a cure!

You are so ambitious and so obviously fueled from the heart. I hate that we all have to deal with this stupid, stupid disease. Doing this is a brilliant idea, a wonderful outlet for your frustrations, and a great fundraiser! You go Bakers! I’m just about to put a link on my site and I will e-mail it around, as well. Myself, I’ve not got paid all summer and am scraping by until the new paychecks come in next week - ha ha - I’ll definitely do some shopping once school gets settled in and I’ve got a few dollars.
It’s so generous of you to match the money as well. Wow.

Thanks, Tara!

What a great thing you’re doing! I hope you’ll keep us updated on how you’re doing with reaching your Christmas-time goal! What organization are the donations going to? Is it a Canadian cancer organization? I’m going to send you a paypal now.
————————–
Yes, the Canadian Cancer Society - sorry, I should have said that! Thanks so much!!

This is a wonderful, generous idea. My grandmother died from gallbladder cancer earlier this year. I will for sure be ordering something and posting about this.
Thanks for supporting such a great cause!

Sorry to hear about your Grandmother. It’s time to put an end to it, don’t you think?
Thank you for supporting us!

Great products! Having lost both parents to cancer in the last three years, I really appreciate what you are doing. I linked to you on my blog, and will definitely feature the products once I get a bit more traffic to my site. Plus, I must buy one for myself, b/c I absolutely agree with the sentiment that CANCER SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So sorry to hear about your parents. That’s awful.
Thanks so much for your support.

[...] The first is to check out this post from Much More Than a Mom. She is selling T-shirts to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Not only is she raising money, but she is also matching the donations dollar for dollar. [...]
