Mother of the Year. That’s me.
The boy and I spent the afternoon with our friends at baby group today. It’s a fab group of women ~ we all met in post-natal class and have continued to meet weekly since the end of the class. The kids are all just as great as the moms, and it’s a great place to get affirmations of the normalcy of our chaos.
Toward the end of our meeting today, the boy started to get super cranky. He had been snacking the entire time we were there (whole grain organic rice cakes…mmmmmm) so I figured he was tired. When we got home, I decided to feed him before laying him down. It was only when he at 2 cubes of beans, 3 cubes of sweet potato and 1 3/4 cups of apple sauce for his “snack” that I realized…I forgot to feed him lunch before we left for baby group! Ack! He slept in this morning so he had a late breakfast and a late nap, waking up just when we were to leave. What the hell kind of mom forgets to feed her kid?
Once he wolfed down the contents of the fridge, the crankies were all gone and he played for over an hour before taking his afternoon nap. If you’d like to mail my mother of the year award, email me for my address. Heh.
He’s still napping now. I hope I remember to give him supper before he goes to bed.
What’s your worst “Mother of the Year” moment?
Have you entered to win your very own SnackTrap at MMO?

HEHE. Don’t feel bad, I’ve done that before too; around Christmas this past year. I’ll put my MOTY moment on my blog. I laughed my hiney off at the comment you put in small print.

Yup, I’ve forgotten too. Amazing how their behavior changes once fed.

I have for sure done the meal thing. In fact, mine happened when he was a few mos younger and I kept wondering why he was having such a hard time falling asleep for his nap…then it struck me.

I had a good chuckle over that one, I’m sure we have all done similar things. I know I have done a number of silly things (especially with 4 kids demanding my attention!)

It’s hard to narrow it down to just one. I think I felt worst when I was late picking him up from school once (it was about 5 minutes) in kindergarten and he was really sad.
My girlfriend laid her baby on the couch for a second while she was switching sides when she was breastfeeding, and her little girl rolled off. Baby was fine! Didn’t even cry. Mom cried for two days!

No human babies in my house, as you know… I’ve not forgotten to feed the animal babies only because they won’t let me. If they were quiet, I definitely would have, but they stare me down when I come in the door and are always there when I leave – they won’t let me forget.
Lucky me.
Or, is it lucky them??

hmmm…I have done so many over the years its hard to pick one. Ok as a teacher you might like this one. S. was in p.m. kindergarten and was going on a field trip. I completley forgot about it until the teacher phoned me reminding me they were leaving right away. This was at 9:00 AM. They put both classes together and needed lunch that day. Noone was dressed and no lunches were made. Drove S. to the bus at school where everyone was waiting for S. Felt pretty silly over that!

Does forgetting your child in a public place count?

Oh hugs to you!!
Kayla has always been slow to gain weight, she was never diagnosed with failure to thrive, but I sure felt like she was failing to thrive! She was always so smuch smaller than other babies. So we went in for weekly weigh-ins (she wasn’t back at her birth weight by her 2 wk check-up), which turned into monthly weight checks. At the 5 month weigh-in she weighed the excact same amount from her 4 month weigh-in. I was stunned and tears sprang to my eyes. The tech saw my concern, weighed her again (same thing) and went to get her Ped for me (I didn’t have an appt). I really felt like I had won the worst mother of the year award. I couldn’t understand how she didn’t gain one single ounce in a month. I worried she wasn’t getting enough breast milk while nursing; it was just an awful feeling. Her ped put me at ease and said she looks healthy, doesn’t look like she’s dehydrated or in need of hospitalization. She asked if Kayla was always that active (as she watched her in her car seat). When I said yes she replied “well she may just be burning her calories faster than you can get them in her!” I still felt awful.
