To Corporate Earth
Lead paint on children’s toys. Unpronounceable ingredients in food. Toxic chemicals in everything from sippy cups and toys to paint and the carpets in our homes. It angers me. Really angers me.
Children are helpless. Their precious little bodies were not meant to process this stuff. As adults we can make informed decisions about what we put in and on our bodies. Children cannot. Many parents are not educated about toxins and the children they care for are unintentionally exposed to all sorts of nasty things.
The organization K.I.D. (Kids In Danger) has a section entitled “Family Voices” where you can read the stories of parents who have lost their babies or had to deal with injuries due to the neglect of major manufacturers. Their updates on current product safety happenings and recalls are a great resource. I highly recommend checking in regularly. I also recommend checking out ‘protect your child‘ on their site.
The book “It’s No Accident” by Marla Felcher (here’s a review by USA Today) takes children’s product makers to task for selling products that could injure and kill children. I haven’t read it, but I intend to. I think you should too.

This world is a scary place and I hope upon HOPE.. that when I bring children into this wild and crazy place.. that I am able to do it and keep them safe from all these dangers.
Thanks for the reminder!

I can only imagine how bad the toys in my basement are for my kids… I wish grandparents were educated too!
