New Hair – The Photographing Of And The Story Behind
When we went to visit our families for Easter, I was able to (finally) get in for a hair cut. My stylist books several months in advance so never has anything open when I find out I’ve got a free hour. A girl I share an ex-boyfriend with (heh) is a stylist and a damn good one at that so I was delighted when she told me she’s stay late to fit me in.
I was given the opportunity of Wednesday night at 8 for a cut & colour or Saturday at 6 for just a cut. I don’t think I’ve had a real colour – one that I haven’t done myself in the shower – since my wedding in the summer of 2004. That’s sad, but colouring is expensive and we are poor. I wrestled with it a bit, but decided to go for broke, literally, and get a colour on Wednesday night.
I explained to the stylist, J, about the whole money, time (lacking both) and hairstyle maintenance (requiring both) situation, and let her have her way with me. She decided on layers that are completely blended so you can’t see them but still have the volume that you get from layers, provided I was okay with straightening it every day. I have straight hair for the most part, but it wouldn’t look right, she said, if I just left it. I lied and told her, “Sure! I’ll do it every day – no problem!” Yeah right. I barely have time to brush my teeth.
For the colour, she went with peekaboo highlights. She coloured the top several centimetres with an espresso brown that matches my natural shade but is shiner and covers the grey (Yay!)

Espresso brown on top – see?
and put caramel highlights and almost-black lowlights underneath so that they’d peek out when my hair moves but not show any regrowth when I don’t have the money or time to get them touched up.

“Peekaboo,” said the pretty highlights.
Can you tell I didn’t straighten it very well?
Aside from the having to straighten it, I’m loving it. It’s long enough to ‘pony up’ to go for a run, and short enough to have some style to it.
If you had unlimited time and money, how would you wear your hair?
Is the hairstyle you have now what you love, or did you settle for the sake of convenience or thrift?
Props to Janice for inspiring me to finally upload the pics I took two weeks ago!

hey looking good! happy belated b-day to the BG. hope you had a nice time at the restaurant. Your kid is sure smart (making comments on both entries at the same time). Thanks for your FB message. I have an assignment to hand in on Thursday, dealing with a toddler who doesn’t nap, 10 or more BH a day, a baby that’s dropped, whose movements hurt now (she is running out of room) and apparently I am losing my mucus plug. What a week.
At least I am not working anymore.
You look good. Must say it again. When I go for hairdresser I go for easy maintenance.

Nice! What a fun highlight/lowlight combo!
Ah, I would have long, flowing curls … not the natural skinny/wild curls I have and straighten!

I like your hair. It looks wonderful! I’ve been forced to get a new blog. The @#$ who had the service let their domain expire with no warning to the rest of us. I have your link up there.

those highlights are great! I need a new hair style, but I just don’t know what I want. And I’m not brave enough to go for something totally different!

I love it! I miss colouring my hair
Even myself. I stopped when I got pregnant and now I just can’t seem to decide what I want.
Your looking beautiful! Sometimes taking care of yourselves (even if it hurts the budget a little) is totally worth it.
