Go Green With Me!
This time, I’m not talking about cleaning products. (Thank God, says the crowd aloud.)
I originally heard of green smoothies and raw foodism from Reesh and thought they sounded cool but aside from adding spinach to my smoothies once in a while I never really pursued it. I know I don’t have it in me to go 100% raw but I would love for our family to aim for 50%.
This past weekend, completely on a whim, I took the Green Smoothie Challenge with the amazingly awesome Tera and Amy of the Raw Divas to celebrate their first annual International Green Smoothie Day. I paid $5 for some fantastic recipes and support emails, and $3 of it went to a great cause.
I emailed them to thank them for the inspiration to add more green smoothies to our diet, shared my new favourite recipe with them and told them about having a pretty large summer backyard neighbourhood playdate here last week where I served green smoothies and healthy foods to everyone to kick off the challenge. It was a chance to see lots of mommy-friends I don’t get to see very often and also to share the goodness that is green smoothies.
All because I told Tera and Amy about it in an email that I amazingly found time to send, I was entered to win some cool stuff.
Check us out at the bottom of this post – I won the fabulous Blendtec blender I’ve been wanting! It’s a $400 blender when it’s on sale! Whoo hoo! Now I don’t even have to pit my peaches before throwing them in. (Just kidding – we may be strange but we don’t eat peach pits.)
Thanks, Tera and Amy and rawdivas.com for some great information, a great challenge, the great FREE 7 day cleanse which the Big Guy and I will be doing next, and the great resource that is your website!
Here’s my latest concoction, for your slurping pleasure. I made it up just according to what was in our fridge needing to be used up. It’s huge, so we blended it in bits and combined it in a big jug to keep in the fridge, but it would be easy to cut in half or quarters if you wanted less.
Summer Blender Brew
4 nectarines, pitted
4 plums, pitted
4 kiwis, peeled
2 peeled bananas, fresh or frozen
2 cups blueberries
1 huge handful of baby spinach
1 long english cucumber
4T ground flax seed
Blend and enjoy!
Mmmmmm…
Have you gone green yet?
Did you know that you can’t taste fresh spinach in a smoothie? You can toss in a whole bag and nobody will be the wiser. (If you put it in a opaque cup!)

Hmmmm…wonder if I can put spinach in chocolate milkshakes for my 6 and 4 year olds. I love smoothies! I just do the basic fruit, yogurt, honey/spenda, and a little milk.
