Not a fun Friday so far. (Fun) Fact Friday, the thirteenth.
Lucky number thirteen! You’d never know it by the way this morning went.
Instead of fun facts this is more of a weekly roundup, but whatever.
*I went to the bathroom alone twice. The first time, Primo painted my glass patio door with cedar deck stain. The second time he dumped an entire box of baby cereal on his sister in her carseat and all over my freshly washed kitchen floor. I think I’m going to install a ziploc bag in my pants so I’m never tempted to leave the room to pee again.
*The rest of the week was good, but exhausting. Monday the BG was supposed to be off but ended up having to cover for his boss so he went to work. It poured rain here so we started a little bit of the Halloween crafts we bought on a random trip to Michael’s a little while ago. Essentially we worked on putting the first letter of his friends’ names on black bags we bought and stuck random Halloween-y stuff on them. We also made Halloween gift tags on the computer and tied them to each bag. The name part was fun because Primo knows all of his letters and letter sounds so he could do much of the actual work. Tying tags with a two year old who wants to do everything but can’t is kind of horrible. When the BG came home, we had dinner and I went for a run while he did the kid washing, which was lovely.
*Tuesday was crappy as well. Weather-wise, I mean. We stayed home (twice in one week, which never happens and is likely why I’m so tired). We made a watermelon basket & filled it with melons, pineapple & kiwi, which was super easy and super fun and we’ll definitely do that again. Every time Primo sees a watermelon now he asks to make a basket with Mommy, even though it was all knife work so he couldn’t really help at all. He did a very good job on the eating, and that’s important too. Tuesday night I swam a mile at the pool, the first half without flippers and the second half with flippers, in my usual 2 front, 2 breast, 2 front, 2 back pattern. It took about 40 minutes so I was still able to get my 2 laps of fly in at the end and felt great. Ten years without any swimming to speak of sure slows you down, though.
*Wednesday we did a little house cleaning (I always have a helper so it takes a while but it’s pretty fun) and went out walking & played outside since all of our regularly scheduled summer activities are over and the fall ones haven’t begun yet. It was incredibly windy so we didn’t last that long outside. I made a huge bowl of salsa dip (modified from Deceptively Delicious…I make everything of hers a little better. Yes, I have a cooking ego right now.) and read about eleventy hundred books to the kids while pretending I still like that stupid book after reading it so many times, as is the norm around here over the course of a day. Needless to say, my run that night was great and I came home in a much better mood than I left in.
*Thursday is always one of my favourite days because we have a playgroup. We hosted and we all ate a gallon of the aforementioned salsa dip with multigrain Tostitos (the best chips ever) and played in the back yard. The kids really enjoyed the climber in the yard and it was hilarious watching them golf, hula hoop, play baseball, shoot hoops, play in the sand and more…all in our tiny back yard. We all have at least two kids so the babies stayed in the house with a few moms and the big kids played outside with a few moms. It was fab. That night I swam a mile with flippers in 37 minutes. Our lane swim is only 45 minutes long so I don’t usually have any time to stretch until I get home if I want to swim a mile and two laps of butterfly. Last night I was able to stretch in the hot tub, which was awesome.
*Today? Well, there was some crappy stuff but then we went to Costco and loaded up on fruit & veg so we’ve got a whole week of green smoothies ahead of us. Mmmmm! Now if only my blender would get here.
It’s a long weekend, which is awesome since the BG starts his staycation today so we’ve got a week and a half to hang out and get crap done around here. His mom is coming tomorrow so we’re going on a dinner date after we get the kids in bed. We have friends coming in to town for lunch tomorrow, more friends coming Sunday and a whole schwack of people coming over Monday for the labour day football game.
Have a great weekend! What’cha up to?
