27 months
Six weeks old…sat in drafts folder…oops!
Babe! Two years and three months. How on earth?
You, sir, are absolutely amazingly awesome.
There are so many things about you right now that I want to remember, but many of them are difficult to put in to words.
You are FUN! So incredibly fun. You wake up laughing and you talk and laugh the day away. You have a huge smile and you love to joke, tease, tickle, wrestle, and generally do anything that makes you and your family and friends laugh. You often do silly things and then say “I’m being a goof, Mommy!” And you are – you always are. I love it.
You are ACTIVE! You never stop moving unless you’re sleeping. You literally run in circles around the living room if the weather is bad or we’re busy and we can’t get outside to play. You love to run, bike, golf, play hockey, swing, slide, climb, wrestle, play soccer, swim, skate (you just started – it rocks!), log roll, somersault, jump, hop, dance…
You are SMART! Before you were two you knew all of your upper and lower case letters and the sounds that about 20 of the letters make. Now you talk in adult-esque sentences, read and spell a few words (verbally spell, I mean – Primo, Bella, Mommy, Daddy, a, it, no), and you never forget anything. Ever. Even if I want you to. Everyone gets a real kick out of it when you say “Snakes sleep in a hibernaculum.” You learned that in your nature class, Big Bird Little Bird, this summer. Grandpa Jack tells everyone he phones about you saying that – he’s so proud of you. We all are.
You are LOVING! You hug and kiss us all the time, and are the best little hugger around. You love to hug and kiss your sister too, but sometimes now those hugs are a little masquerade for trying to push her away from your toys. We’re just seeing the first signs of a little jealousy now that she can get to your toys independently, but you’re still better than we ever could have hoped. You hate to see anyone cry, and you hug her or your friends immediately if they’re hurt. You rub them on the back and say “Iss okay.” For a two year old, you’ve got a great start on developing empathy and it’s incredibly sweet. My favourite thing that you say is “Iluhyousomutch, Mommy!” It’s always in the sweet high pitched voice that you use, and it melts me every time.
You are HEALTHY! You weigh right around 30 pounds. You eat a ton of healthy food – whole grains, breads, fruits & veggies, chicken breast (yes, you are no longer a vegetarian), eggs, noodles, yogurt and more. You’re still on organic homogenized milk when we can get it, but when we can’t we let you have whatever’s in the fridge – usually Daddy’s 2% milk. Always organic, though.
You are POTTY TRAINED! It took very little effort on my part, actually. You were ready. I set the timer every 20 minutes and you peed 18 times the first day. Right from the start you were both peeing and pooping on the potty, all in the name of getting one chocolate chip. After a few weeks I told you that you were a very big boy and didn’t need a chocolate chip anymore, and you simply said “I am big,” and went on with your day. You’re still in a pull up at night but that’s it, and we’re not rushing that one at all. I figure you’ll tell us when you’re ready. You often wake up dry and do a “Huuuuge Pee!” in the morning, but other times your pull up is completely saturated.
You are GROWING UP! You tell me “I’m your first baby,” and you always will be. It’s exciting to see you grow up and experience your ‘firsts’ with you, but it never ceases to amaze me how fast the time is passing by. It seems like just yesterday I was nursing you in the lazyboy chair and you would fall asleep in my arms where we’d stay for hours. Now it’s your sister I’m nursing and you’re saying “See needs bestmilk, Mommy” whenever she fusses. You walk up and down stairs without railings or holding hands, you’re getting much better at staying on the sidewalk when we walk, and you’re starting to actually listen when I ask you to do something. Especially when I say “That’s one.” We use 1-2-3 Magic and you’ve only let me get to three a few times in the last month.
I am amazed by you, kiddo. You are the best little boy on the planet. You are special in so many ways, and every day with you is a day that I cherish.
I love you SOOOO much, my boy.
Mommy
xoxo

P.S. I’m 30-something and I haven’t ever heard the word “hibernaculum”, well that I can remember.
