The Fur-Babies

You don’t hear much about these three members of our family, but they’re incredibly important to all of us and we love them to bits.

Allow me to introduce you…

Aren’t I gorgeous?
My name is Chloe. I’m 12 years old and have lived with Mommy since I was 8 weeks. She got me for her 20th birthday from a loser ex-boyfriend but we don’t talk about that. When the BG started hanging around, I liked him right away and he informally adopted me as his own. That’s one of the reasons she let him move in. Without my approval she would have booted him. Cats are important like that. I have always been kind of standoffish but am getting more friendly in my old age. I shocked everyone by actually liking the little people that they keep bringing home. I don’t want them to touch me, but I don’t eat them when they bug me, and that’s pretty good I’d say.

Hey. I’m Thai - named after the food because my Mom was into peanut Thai when I moved in and the folks couldn’t think of another name. It doesn’t matter anyway because I don’t listen when they talk to me. Ever. Unless there’s some major meat involved, and even then it’s on my own time. I’m kind of an ass and I bark at every person, animal and blade of grass that moves in the park beside my house, but I’m also loving and cuddly and I love my family. I am not truly happy unless my whole family is home and I am sad when anyone leaves. I am incredibly good with kids and am even patient with that damn two year old that keeps pulling my tail. My mom begged and begged my dad for a dog and he agreed to buy me for her as an early 27th gift birthday a year after they moved in together. I have been spoiled from the start so it’s their own damn fault. They call me Thai-Bo, Thai-ronius J. LastName and Your Thai-ness. I prefer the latter.

I’m Maverick, but they call me Mavi, Mav or the Schmav. I’m not always that bright, but I’m the sweetest and best behaved little pooch on the planet. I am incredibly excitable so I bark too much when people come to my house (or mom and dad come upstairs because I forget they’re home. See: not that bright, above.) I only do it because I love people and I want nothing more than to please people and play with my family. Or anyone else who so much as looks at me. I’ll even play with the plumber. I am all about family and I get incredibly anxious when I think someone is mad at me. My brother Thai is my very best buddy.

More than she asked for?

So, I bought my mom a really cool blankety blank for Christmas. (Sorry, she reads my blog so I’ll have to tell you after she opens it.) I wrapped it up all pretty with ribbons and the whole she-bang and propped it against the tv stand yesterday, and one of my butthead dogs PEED on it! Grrrr.

It dried out overnight and is now re-wrapped and safely hidden. The actual gift was never peed on - just the paper & the box. The gift is protected nicely inside by styrofoam.

I hope she likes it because I don’t know that the store is going to want it back now.

ETA: Just finished cleaning up three more pees. WTF? Bladder infection? Marking all of a sudden? These dogs have been trained for 4 years. That’s one of the reasons we didn’t put in any carpet when we finished our basement, but I expected it to be several years before I was so appreciative of that decision. Anyone know how to tell which of your two dogs is peeing? We have to leave the door open because the litter box is down in our laundry room.

Pimpin’ for the Animals

Many of you know of my love for animals. Our pets are our furry children, and we love all animals and think they deserve great respect (even the ones we’d never have in our house, like snakes.)
I was raised to take special care of those who cannot care for themselves. My husband and I believe that we should also speak for those who have no voice, and we are indeed very outspoken about it at times. We are raising the boy the same way ~ to believe that animals are no less valuable than people, and to care for them with love and compassion. Wanna hear my rant about people that let their cats outside? (If you live on a farm, you get a pass.)

A fellow animal person, Aimee, has a new blog and she’s hosting a contest to promote it. Go over and enter to win a horse pack at this post. (Tara! You’ll love it!)
