Sharing Double Daring

I told you it was coming.

Are you prepared for the challenge?

double-daringTwo incredibly rockin’ ladies, Andi Buchanan and Miriam Peskowitz (who founded and used to run Mother Talk, which has been ruined in my eyes since their departure by joining with Mom Central, and you know how I feel about the folks currently employed by Mom Central the place that wants only free advertorials rather than real reviews therefore you can’t believe anything they say…ahem…let’s get back to the task at hand why don’t we?) have written a new book, THE DOUBLE DARING BOOK FOR GIRLS – a sequel to the Daring Book For Girls which I loved and reviewed here.

This, however, is not a review. It’s a book shower, thrown in Andi & Miriam’s honour, by Mel, and I’m thrilled to be a small part of honouring these two amazing & talented women and their fantabulous new book!

My mission is to try one of the activities at home and then challenge y’all to meet or beat me. It’s not as easy as it sounds, for a few reasons.

1. I got the book today and have to post within the next three days. Not much planning time, yo.
2. That whole feeling like crap thing.
3. The only other girl in my house that’s not a cat is 15 months old and I’m not sure the authorities would like it if I died her hair with kool-aid.

So I’ve changed the rules a little, as I’m wont to do. Page 210 of the book begins the section on April Fool’s Day. And yes, I know it’s mid-May. However, my family has a great sense of humour and my kids are both just learning to tease, tell jokes & play tricks so I thought it would be a great activity to start off our journey through the book.

I haven’t had time to do much more than this, but it was pretty awesome. The swap prank played out like this: I emptied the “kid cupboard” in our kitchen – the one they go to multiple times a day to choose their plates, bowls & cups – and put everything into their bathtub. They were a little confused when they opened it to get their cereal bowls, but started to really get into it when we were hunting through the house looking for the mysteriously disappearing dishes. When they found them in the bathtub, they roared with laughter and that’s when I knew it had definitely been a success.

My challenge to you? Carry out a prank this week. Play one on your kids or with your kids on your sig.oth. They work especially well when everyone’s feeling a little grumpy…provided they’re the type of people who can take a joke.

Need some ideas?

Pull out all the bags from the cereal boxes & switch them around.
While someone’s sleeping, tape newspaper over their doorway.
Put dish soap in the toilet.
If you buy cartons, put food colouring in the milk.

…or come up with your own. Either way – have fun! After all, that’s what this whole book is about.

Buy it. You’ll love it. Every girl of every age should have one.

And check out the website too.

Let me know if you play a trick on someone!
